Short sale against the box意思是借来相同或者类似的股票卖掉，若股票真的下跌，投资者再买回来还回去，以便赚差价。这样可以hedge股票下跌的风险。

所以这里的【defer capital gain tax】，因为不是立即卖掉手上的头寸，所以可以defer【本身持有的股票】所带来的capital gain tax。
