Step up in basis是什么？为什么题目里不用再收税？

根据原版书上对于step-up in basis的描述：

In other cases upon inheritance the recipient receives a “step-up in basis” such that for tax purposes the value on the date of death is used to compute any future gain or loss

他指的是比如说Smiith 死后，他的儿子继承了他的股票，那他儿子未来卖掉股票纳税的税基就是他儿子继承的那天股票的价值。

因为这个case 里面说Smith 是不打算卖的，那他就不用交税。他儿子继承的时候，税基又提高了，相当于很大一部分就免税了
