作为一种基于规则的投资方法，排他性筛选本质上是简化的，通常不考虑更软、更定性的负责任投资形式，如尽责管理和参与活动。

排除筛选、负面筛选相当于就是制定好一个规则，举一个最简单的例子：排除所有碳排放达到某一特定值得公司。规则制定好之后，就可以开始“简单粗暴”得进行选股，这种方式相对简化，而更软更定型的方法一般指的就是积极主动的投资方法，需要基金经理亲历亲为的去进行尽责管理，参与公司的董事会决策，进行投票，积极主动的去影响公司。
