funded/unfunded portion of liability用不同discount rate的问题

funded （unfunded）portion of liability 用higher (lower)discount rate，但是前面又写了underfunded pension plan may take higher risk for higher return， 这样不是矛盾的吗，不应该是unfunded portion 用 higher discount rate吗？谢谢

另外vest这个单词怎么理解？看到ppt有很多vested, vesting，不知道具体代表什么含义

1、同学提问的51页不知道是不是基础班讲义呢？按照以往的经验同学的疑问应该是下面这一点，即Underfunded时，对养老金Risk tolerance的影响其实需要分情况来讨论，所以会出现underfunded pension plan may take higher risk for higher return这一点。

具体情况如下：

（1）如果Sponsor有足够的资金，且有意愿来缴纳更多Contribution补足缺口，同时企业追求DB fund的稳定的话，那此时DB Fund可以投资的保守一点，此时Risk tolerance下降。因为有缺口时Sponsor都会补足，且企业追求的是DB fund的稳定，这时候DB fund可以投资保守一些；如讲义最后一段蓝框的描述。

（2）如果DB Fund想要通过投资收益来补足缺口，同时企业也不想提高Contribution来补足缺口，那此时DB Fund需要投资的更加激进一些，这样资产的收益率才有可能会高于负债的折现率，才有可能使得养老金的缺口变小；如讲义中间一段的红框。

考试的时候，一般情况下，Underfunded会使得Risk tolerance下降，也就是unfunded portion of liability 用lower discount rate。

如果题目条件有进一步说明企业的想法，如企业是否想继续缴纳更多的Contribution来保证养老金的稳定性，或者DB fund是否要通过投资来补足缺口，那此时就需要结合题目的描述来进一步判断了，判断的思路就如上面的解释以及下面讲义的红框与蓝框。

1、vest这个单词出现是因为部分pension plan会附带一个条件，要求员工干满年限，DB/DC plan才生效、退休后才有权利拿分红。

举个栗子

Heselwith notes that the vesting schedule with regard to the company’s contributions is the same in both plans,

翻译过来就是H同学注意到DB/DC plan的vesting schedule是一样的

although her contributions in the DC plan are vested immediately.

加上一个从句，即便DC plan每期都会实打实的缴纳Contribution；

和前面一句连起来就是：即便DC plan一开始就会实打实地缴纳Contribution（contributions in the DC plan are vested immediately），但也只有员工干满Vesting period后，才有权拿退休金。
