Short maturity at- or near-the-money options on long-term bond futures contain a great deal of convexity. Thus, options increase the convexity of the French client’s portfolio. 题干中说duration不变,不应该理解为收益损失都不变吗?这么理解偏了吗?

题干的策略是这样,卖出一些Long-term bonds,然后买入一些Options;因为Option的最终标的物还是债券,所以Option也是带有Duration数据的。

这样一买一卖一定会引起Portfolio的Duration发生改变,所以题干又说买卖前后保证Portfolio的Duration不变。只要通过合适的买卖配比,我们就能保证这个策略不会影响到组合的Duration数据。

所以,经过这样的买卖,组合的Duration没变,但是Option有极大的Convexity、卖出债券的Convexity相对更小,所以这样的调整是在不影响组合Duration的情况下,放大组合的Convexity数据,所以他实际上是Buy convexity策略;使得组合的Convexity数据变大。


然后题目问,假设预期利率曲线Stable,问这样的策略是否有盈利。

Convexity有涨多跌少的优势,但只有利率发生改变时,Convexity才能实现涨多跌少,如果预测利率曲线Stable、也就是利率不变,那Convexity就没有用处。

我们Buy convexity是付出成本的,就以这道题Buy convexity的策略而言,我们付出的成本有:

1、Buy option付出的期权费

2、卖出了Long-term bonds,卖出这部分债券拿不到Coupon

所以对于这道题,我们Buy convexity,利率不变、没有享受到Convexity涨多跌少的优势,同时Buy convexity还付出了成本,于是整个策略会产生一个亏损。

Buy convexity的策略是只想影响组合的Convexity数据,而不影响组合的其他指标,如Duration,所以这道题题干说的Duration-neutral实际上就是想告诉我们,这道题是想执行一个Buy convexity的策略。



认为Option有很大的Convexity,Buy options就是Buy convexity的策略。无论是Buy put/buy call都是Buy convexity。
